The compressive strength of iglidur J plain bearings decreases with increasing temperatures. Diagram 02 illustrates this relationship. At the long-term permissible application temperature of +90°C, the permissible surface pressure is approximately 20MPa. The maximum recommended surface pressure represents a mechanical material parameter. Conclusions about the tribology cannot be drawn from this. With a maximum recommended surface pressure of 35MPa, iglidur J plain bearings are not suitable for extreme loads. Diagram 03 shows the elastic deformation of iglidur J under radial loads.
The low coefficient of friction and the very low stick-slip tendency of iglidur® J plain bearings are particularly important at very low speeds. However, iglidur® J can also be used for high speeds of over 1m/s. In both cases, the static friction is very low and there is almost no stick-slip. The maximum values given in table 02 can only be achieved at low pressure loads. At the specified speeds, friction can lead to an increase up to the limit of the permanently permissible temperature. In practice, these limit values cannot always be achieved due to the interaction of different influences.

|---|---|---|---|
| permanent | 1.5 | 1.1 | 8 |
| Short-term | 3 | 2.1 | 10 |
Like the wear resistance, the coefficient of friction μ also changes with the load (diagrams 04 and 05).

Friction and wear are also highly dependent on the mating partner. The coefficient of friction of the pairing increases with increasing shaft roughness. A smoothed surface with an average surface finish Ra = 0.1 to 0.3μm is most suitable. Diagrams 06 and 07 show an extension of the results of tests with different shaft materials that were carried out with iglidur® J plain bearings. Compared to most other iglidur® materials, the wear of iglidur® J plain bearings is very low at low loads with all shaft materials tested. Even with increasing loads in the range up to 5MPa, the wear resistance of iglidur® J plain bearings is excellent. If your intended shaft material is not included in the test results presented here, please contact us.
iglidur J plain bearings are standard bearings for shafts with H-tolerance (recommended minimum h9). The bearings are designed for press-fit into a housing machined to a h7 tolerance. After being assembled in a nominal size housing, the inner diameter automatically adjusts to the E10 tolerances. For particular dimensions the tolerance differs depending on the wall thickness (please see product range table).

iglidur® J plain bearings are resistant to diluted alkalis and very weak acids as well as fuels and all types of lubricants. The low moisture absorption also allows use in wet or humid environments. Plain bearings made of iglidur® J are resistant to common cleaning agents in the food industry.
