The ambient temperatures strongly influence the specifications of plain bearings. In accordance with its area of application as a material that can be sterilised with hot steam, iglidur HSD350 offers good thermal resistance. At temperatures above 130°C, a locating spigot of the bearing is required.

Due to its relatively good thermal conductivity and thermal resistance, iglidur HSD350 is suitable for speeds in the medium range. The permissible surface speed decreases with increasing surface pressure.

The compressive strength of iglidur HSD350 plain bearings decreases with increasing temperatures. Diagram 02 illustrates this relationship. The maximum recommended surface pressure represents a mechanical material parameter. Conclusions about the tribology cannot be drawn from this. Diagram 03 shows the elastic deformation of iglidur under radial loads. Under the maximum recommended surface pressure of 30MPa, the deformation is less than 2%. Possible plastic deformation depends, among other things, on the duration of the impact.

Diagram 04: Coefficients of friction as a function of the surface speed, p = 1MPa
X = surface speed [m/s]
Y = coefficient of friction μ
The coefficient of friction increases slowly and evenly over the speed, but remains below 0.3 up to a speed of 2.0m/s.

| Coefficient of friction μ | 0.07 - 0.23 | 0.09 | 0.04 | 0.04 |
The moisture absorption of iglidur HSD350 plain bearings in a normal climate is around 0.6% weight. The saturation limit in water is 1.2% weight. These values are so low that consideration of swelling due to moisture absorption is only necessary in extreme cases.
Diagrams 05 and 06 show an extension of the results of tests with different shaft materials, which were carried out with plain bearings from iglidur HSD350. At 0.3m/s and 1MPa surface pressure, a wide variety of shafts are suitable and deliver good wear results. Hard anodised aluminium, free cutting steel, hard chrome plated Cf53, 304 SS and high grade steel show low bearing wear. If your intended shaft material is not included in the test results presented here, please contact us.

iglidur HSD350 plain bearings are standard bearings for shafts with h-tolerance (recommended minimum h9). The bearings are designed for press-fit into a housing machined to a H7 tolerance. After being assembled into a nominal size housing, in standard cases the inner diameter automatically adjusts to the F10 tolerances. For particular dimensions the tolerance differs depending on the wall thickness (please see product range table). In relation to the installation tolerance, the inner diameter changes with the absorption of humidity.
